Southwest Missouri Emergency Support Organization (SMESO) is a group of
representatives
from county and city emergency management offices,
volunteer organizations and state and federal agencies committed to building stronger
emergency management organizations through the
sharing of ideas, knowledge, education and
resources.

Networking with other emergency management directors and emergency personnel in southwest Missouri through SMESO is invaluable. When you have a disaster in you county, you know who in the region has a particular expertise and who you can call on for assistance."
Phil Amtower Christian County EMD
"SMESO offers many advantages to it's members.
As a local EMD, I would have to say that one in particular - networking - stands out. Meeting face-to-face with leaders from various emergency services, spending time together working on common issues, developing a list of contacts - all of these are great help in the event of a disater."
Keith Stammer Joplin/Jasper County EMD

SMESO serves 18 southwest Missouri counties
in the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Region D              coverage area.

In addition, SMESO coordinates
efforts as necessary with emergency services          personnel in the three bordering states of
Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
